Real-time multiplayer is the genre solo developers are told to avoid because matchmaking, state sync, and latency handling usually demand a team. Fade: Duel Arena was scoped to make the problem tractable: short duels, deterministic resolution, and a ranked ladder that keeps sessions worth caring about without requiring a live-ops department.
Agentic AI carried the heavy infrastructure work, including the matchmaking loop, leaderboard plumbing, and the App Store release pipeline. That left the human attention budget for the thing players actually feel: match pacing and the two-second thrill of a duel decided.
